How to Appeal a Game Ban: Official Routes for PC Games

A game ban appeal goes through the service that issued the restriction. As of September 29, 2026, the eight routes in this directory include separate Steam paths for Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) and developer-issued game bans. The notice or account status page determines which path applies, and some restrictions have no appeal option. Use the table to find the official source before sending account details anywhere.

Start with the exact ban notice

A game ban appeal starts with the exact wording of the restriction notice and the publisher’s account-status page. Read both before opening a support form. Steam's VAC notice and a Steam game ban are handled differently. An Easy Anti-Cheat reference ID points to another process again.

The comparison below concerns published support routes. CheatsMatch's game catalogue records provider-published product information for a separate research task. A product listing does not change an account sanction or an appeal rule.

Steam VAC bans and developer game bans

A Steam VAC ban has no manual appeal route. Steam Support says VAC bans cannot be appealed and says an incorrectly issued VAC ban is removed automatically after investigation. Sending a game developer a VAC appeal would put the request with the wrong decision-maker.

A developer-issued Steam game ban has a different owner. Steam says the game developer decides whether to apply it, holds the underlying evidence and is the contact for an appeal. Steam's developer-ban FAQ describes how to find a game's support contact from its Steam Library page. Ask the developer's support channel whether it will review the sanction. A Steam profile label alone does not establish appeal eligibility.

For the broader distinction between account, hardware and game-specific restrictions, the game-bans guide explains the categories. The official notice still controls which of them applies to an individual account.

Official appeal routes by publisher

Official game-ban routes differ by sanction owner. The table records what the named service publicly says, with each row checked on September 29, 2026. “Official route” names the support page cited below the table; it is not a promise that a particular account is eligible. The Overwatch row identifies Blizzard's published help listing only because the full article was unavailable when checked.

Steam, Activision, Epic Games, Easy Anti-Cheat, Riot Games and Blizzard do not share a single appeal form. The ban notice, the publisher's account portal and the cited support page together identify the applicable route. If the notice names a community server instead of the game publisher, this directory does not establish that server's process.

Which restrictions can be appealed?

Appeal eligibility depends on the publisher and the sanction type. Activision says it will overturn a permanent ban only when it determines that a hacked account caused the infraction. Its ban-appeal page also excludes temporary bans, limited-matchmaking accounts and hardware bans from that appeal route. Those are Activision's conditions; they do not define the rules for other games.

Epic Games permits one appeal for each eligible sanction and says the account holder can see the sanction in its portal. Rocket League support says its permanent bans are not reversible, while directing EAC-issued bans to the EAC site. Steam says VAC bans cannot be appealed, but developer game bans should be taken to the game's developer. A support contact existing does not mean a particular sanction can be reversed.

What belongs in a support request

An official support form is the place to provide the details that form asks for. Easy Anti-Cheat's form requests a reference ID and tells players to check the game's support channel first, with a separate Epic route for Fortnite. Activision's form starts with account enforcement status and an account-security check. Epic's portal is tied to the signed-in account's sanction record.

Use the account and notice details requested by that service. This directory does not provide an appeal script because the relevant facts depend on the sanction and the publisher's form.

What happens after an appeal

Epic Games says its sanction review can uphold, lift or modify a decision, and the result is communicated through its portal and email. Activision says its appeal decision is final and that repeated submissions or appeals through other channels do not receive responses. Those statements describe each publisher's process; they do not supply an appeal success rate.

Steam's VAC process is different because it has no appeal submission. Steam says it investigates claims of incorrect VAC bans and automatically removes a ban if it determines that the ban was issued incorrectly. For a developer game ban, the developer's own support response is the relevant one.

Find the game-specific ban guide

Game-specific ban guides carry the details this directory keeps short. The Call of Duty guide covers Activision's enforcement categories, while the Fortnite and Valorant guides address their own publishers' notices and policies. For a game without a dedicated ban guide, use its official support source in the table.

CheatsMatch's Escape from Tarkov catalogue page has a different job: it compares published product listings for that game. Neither a catalogue entry nor a provider claim is evidence that an existing sanction can be lifted. Research the sanction through the publisher before treating a product listing as relevant to any other question.

How this directory is checked

This directory uses the publisher's, developer's or anti-cheat vendor's own support page for every route and policy statement. The rows were checked September 29, 2026. When an account-specific portal is sign-in dependent, the public policy describes only the general process; it cannot establish an individual account's status.

The Blizzard Overwatch row is deliberately narrow: the official support index lists an appeal help article, but its full guidance was unavailable when checked. Riot's bans index identifies its help route without a verified universal cheating-ban eligibility rule. Publishers may change support routes, restriction categories or appeal terms; check their current guidance.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Steam VAC ban be appealed?

No. Steam Support says VAC bans cannot be appealed or removed manually by Steam Support. Steam says it automatically removes a VAC ban if its investigation determines that the ban was issued incorrectly.

Where do I appeal a Steam game ban?

Steam says the game developer is responsible for a developer-issued game ban. Contact that game's developer through its official support route; Steam's game-ban FAQ explains where to find the contact from the Steam Library. The developer determines the appeal process.

Should I contact Easy Anti-Cheat or the game publisher?

Easy Anti-Cheat says Fortnite players should use Epic help and players of other games should consult the game's support channel before submitting an EAC appeal. Rocket League's own support page specifically directs EAC-issued bans to the EAC form using the reference ID in the notice. Follow the game-specific notice and current support page.

Does submitting an appeal guarantee a ban reversal?

No publisher source in this directory guarantees a reversal. Epic says its review may uphold, lift or modify an eligible sanction, while Activision limits reversals to a specific hacked-account circumstance. Steam VAC bans have no manual appeal route.
