Fortnite Bans and Appeals: Sanctions, Duration and Epic's Portal
A Fortnite ban appeal starts with the sanction notice on the affected Epic Games account. As of September 29, 2026, Epic says a temporary Fortnite ban can last up to 365 days, while a permanent ban is indefinite. The notice states the ban type, duration and rule involved. Eligible player and creator sanctions use Epic's Sanctions and Appeals Portal and the Sanction ID from the email; review does not promise reversal.

Find the official Fortnite notice
Epic says a Fortnite ban notice is sent to the email address on the account. It states the ban type, duration and violated rule. Epic's status help also directs players to the signed-in Sanctions and Appeals Portal, where active sanctions, status and duration appear. The Sanction ID from the email can be used to find the relevant entry.
Read the named sanction before describing it as an account, matchmaking, social or hardware restriction. The portal is account-specific; a login error or long queue is not a substitute for its status. The Fortnite comparison identifies the game and catalogue context, while Epic's notice determines what happened to an individual account.
Fortnite sanction types are not identical
Epic's Fortnite help distinguishes a matchmaking ban from a social ban and from two LEGO Fortnite Odyssey restrictions. A matchmaking ban blocks entry to Fortnite experiences while the player can still log in and use text or voice chat. A social ban affects text and voice chat. A LEGO world lock prevents all players, including the owner, from entering the locked world; a LEGO multiplayer ban restricts other players from entering the owner's world. These are different affected activities, not interchangeable labels.
Epic's broader Safety Center also describes product and account bans. A product ban can affect one game or service; an account ban disables the Epic account. The game comparison directory helps locate the title, but only the official notice identifies the imposed sanction.
| Sanction | What access changes | Duration statement | Epic source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matchmaking ban | Entry to Epic- or creator-made Fortnite experiences is blocked | Notice gives duration | Fortnite ban help |
| Social ban | Voice and text chat access is lost | Temporary or permanent, depending on severity | Fortnite ban help |
| LEGO world lock | All players cannot enter the locked world | See the notice and portal | Fortnite ban help |
| LEGO multiplayer ban | Other players cannot enter the owner's world | See the notice and portal | Fortnite ban help |
Temporary and permanent duration
Epic says temporary Fortnite bans can last up to 365 days and permanent bans are indefinite. Those are the general bounds in its player help, not a prediction of one account's remaining time. The email and signed-in portal show the duration for the affected sanction. Epic also says a Fortnite player who is banned from Fortnite can still play other games on the Epic Games Store, which illustrates why a game restriction is not automatically a store-wide account ban.
A one-year rule also appears in Epic's dated cheating policy, but that rule is specifically about a first cheating offense from April 2025. It should not be used as the duration for every Fortnite sanction. The types of game bans guide compares game, account and device scopes across named publishers.
Use the Sanction ID portal
Epic's Fortnite help says eligible player and creator bans are reviewed and appealed through the Sanctions and Appeals Portal with the Sanction ID in the notice email. Sign in to the correct Epic Games account. Epic explicitly says Player Support cannot review or appeal these bans on a player's behalf. The portal is the route for a sanction appeal, not a third-party appeal form.
Epic says one appeal can be submitted per eligible sanction. A human moderator reviews it and may uphold, lift or modify the sanction. The portal and email provide the decision or status. Those published possibilities do not imply that any particular appeal will succeed. If the portal identifies a sanction as ineligible, this guide cannot confer eligibility.

EAC sends Fortnite decisions to Epic
Easy Anti-Cheat's decision-appeal page says Fortnite cases should go to Epic Help to submit a ticket. That instruction appears on EAC's page for an EAC decision. Epic's Fortnite ban help gives a more specific instruction for a player or creator sanction with a Sanction ID: use the Sanctions and Appeals Portal, and do not ask Player Support to review the ban on your behalf.
The two pages describe different entry points. If the account received an Epic sanction notice and Sanction ID, use Epic's portal for that sanction. If the question is specifically about an EAC decision, EAC directs Fortnite players to Epic Help. Keep any reference ID from the notice. Neither page says that a generic EAC form can replace Epic's portal for a Fortnite sanction appeal.
Epic's dated cheating policy
Epic's Fortnite cheating-offense help says its April 2025 change set a one-year matchmaking ban for a first cheating offense and a lifetime ban for a second. During the first matchmaking ban, the account can log in and use text or voice chat but cannot enter Epic- or creator-made experiences or spectate. These are Epic's stated rules for that offense category as checked September 29, 2026.
The rule does not establish the reason for an individual sanction. The notice gives the rule Epic says was violated. Do not infer a cheating offense from a matchmaking restriction alone, because Epic's sanction pages cover multiple rule categories. A dated policy may also change, so the live Epic notice and help page control a current case.
A hardware warning is not a complete ban policy
Epic's hardware-identifiers warning help uses the term “hardware ban” while explaining a Fortnite warning. It says the warning may be followed by removal from matches or a permanent account ban. The help page does not specify a universal hardware-ban duration, device scope or appeal procedure, so this guide does not assign one. Follow the exact notice and current Epic support route.
The HWID ban guide explains how named publishers document device restrictions. Its examples are not a substitute for a Fortnite-specific notice. The cited Epic sanction pages do not establish an IP-ban category, so an “IP ban” claim is not inferred from connection behavior.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I appeal a Fortnite ban?
Epic directs eligible Fortnite player and creator sanction appeals to its Sanctions and Appeals Portal. Sign in to the affected account and use the Sanction ID from the notice email. Epic says Player Support cannot review or appeal the sanction on your behalf.
How long can a temporary Fortnite ban last?
Epic says a temporary Fortnite ban can last up to 365 days. A permanent ban is indefinite. The affected account's notice and portal show the duration for its actual sanction.
Is a matchmaking ban the same as losing the Epic account?
No. Epic says a Fortnite matchmaking ban blocks entry to Fortnite experiences while login and text or voice chat remain available. Its broader account-ban category disables the Epic account. Read the sanction notice to identify which scope applies.
Does Fortnite use IP bans?
The Epic policy pages cited here do not list an IP-ban category. They describe named Fortnite sanctions and a separate hardware-identifiers warning. An IP-ban label cannot be established from a connection error or a forum account; use the official notice and support page for the affected account.
