Denuvo Anti-Cheat: What It Is and Which Games Have Used It

Denuvo Anti-Cheat is Irdeto's game cheat prevention product, separate from Denuvo Anti-Tamper and Anti-Piracy. Two publisher-documented PC cases have ended: DOOM Eternal added it for BATTLEMODE in 2020 and removed it the same month; Dead by Daylight trialed it on Steam in September 2026 and announced the trial's end. These dated examples do not establish a current game list.

What Denuvo Anti-Cheat is

Denuvo Anti-Cheat is the game cheat prevention product Irdeto currently presents on its video-games site. Its product page describes tools for developers and publishers to investigate or detect suspected cheating. A product page establishes what Irdeto offers, not which named game currently runs a particular integration.

The CheatsMatch anti-cheat directory has a Denuvo entry alongside other systems. This page adds publisher-dated game evidence to that entry. A historical game mention should stay historical even if the vendor still sells the product today.

How it differs from Anti-Tamper

Denuvo Anti-Cheat and Denuvo Anti-Tamper are different Irdeto products. Irdeto's 2020 explanation describes Anti-Tamper as copy-protection support and Anti-Cheat as a cheating-detection service for multiplayer play. Behaviour Interactive made the same practical distinction in its September 2026 Dead by Daylight trial notice: its Steam trial was Anti-Cheat, not Denuvo Anti-Piracy.

This difference matters when reading a store page, support article or forum post. A claim that a game uses Denuvo's anti-piracy or anti-tamper technology does not establish that Denuvo Anti-Cheat is installed for that title. Easy Anti-Cheat is another separately named system, with its own directory page; similar names and functions do not make these products interchangeable.

What Irdeto says its product offers

Irdeto's current Anti-Cheat page presents kernel monitoring and behavioral machine learning as parts of its game-cheat prevention range. Its older 2020 article described a kernel-mode driver and activation tied to competitive game modes. The older statement records how Irdeto described that product then; it is not a technical specification for every publisher integration in 2026. Neither page gives an independent measured detection rate for a named game.

The current page displays customer-company logos, not a dated list of active game installations. Dead by Daylight's game page gives broader game context for the later Steam trial, but the publisher announced that the Denuvo trial ended. The game route is not proof that Denuvo remains active there.

Which games have publisher documentation

Bethesda and Behaviour Interactive provide two specific PC examples with both an addition or trial statement and a later end statement. Bethesda added Denuvo Anti-Cheat for DOOM Eternal's BATTLEMODE in its 2020-05-14 Update 1 notes, then said it removed the integration in 2020-05-27 Update 1.1. Behaviour said its Dead by Daylight Denuvo Anti-Cheat trial began on Steam in September 2026, then announced on September 15 that an update would end it and remove Denuvo.

These rows are a history of publisher statements, not a list of current customers. The Behaviour row records an announced removal; CheatsMatch did not inspect a post-update installation. Irdeto's company logos and the existence of its current product page do not change either game's stated status.

DOOM Eternal's 2020 addition and removal

DOOM Eternal Update 1, dated 2020-05-14, added Denuvo Anti-Cheat for PC BATTLEMODE. Bethesda's note called it required for that mode and described a kernel-mode driver whose use began with game launch and stopped when the game closed. Those are Bethesda's statements about that specific update and do not establish a general Denuvo runtime rule.

DOOM Eternal Update 1.1, dated 2020-05-27, removed the Denuvo Anti-Cheat integration on PC. That later publisher note supersedes the earlier addition for a current-use question. DOOM Eternal belongs in a historical entry with both dates, never as an undated present-tense example.

Dead by Daylight's 2026 Steam trial

Behaviour Interactive's September 2, 2026 official Dead by Daylight Steam announcement said a Denuvo Anti-Cheat trial had begun for Steam players. It expressly separated that tool from Denuvo Anti-Piracy and said the trial would be deactivated at its end. The announcement did not make Denuvo Anti-Cheat a permanent protection for every Dead by Daylight platform.

On September 15, Behaviour announced that an 11 a.m. ET update would end the trial and remove Denuvo from Dead by Daylight. Its support FAQ also says the game disables Denuvo after the test and cleans up files in the game directory. These are publisher statements about the trial's end, not a local verification of every player's PC. They establish why the game should not appear in an undated active-use list.

Updates and current-use limits

Irdeto's current product page establishes that Denuvo Anti-Cheat remains an offered product. It does not identify a currently protected game from a publisher source. The two game cases in this article are dated and ended or announced to end. That evidence does not prove no other game currently uses the product and cannot support a positive current-game list.

The game table should change only when a publisher or developer directly names a title, platform and current Anti-Cheat integration. Check the date and distinguish Anti-Cheat from Anti-Tamper or Anti-Piracy. Revisit the Behaviour trial if a new trial or permanent decision is announced, and recheck Irdeto's product description before carrying an older technical claim forward.

Frequently asked questions

Is Denuvo Anti-Cheat the same as Denuvo Anti-Tamper?

No. Irdeto describes Anti-Tamper as a copy-protection product and Anti-Cheat as a game cheating-detection service. Behaviour also distinguished Anti-Cheat from Anti-Piracy in its 2026 Steam trial notice.

Does DOOM Eternal still use Denuvo Anti-Cheat?

Bethesda added it for PC BATTLEMODE in Update 1 on 2020-05-14, then said Update 1.1 removed the integration on 2020-05-27. Those publisher patch notes support historical use and removal, not current use.

Did Dead by Daylight keep Denuvo Anti-Cheat?

Behaviour began a Steam-only trial in September 2026 and announced on September 15 that an update would end the trial and remove Denuvo. Its FAQ also describes automatic deactivation after the test. CheatsMatch did not inspect the post-update software installation.

Which games currently use it?

The sources used here confirm two past PC cases but no current game-specific deployment. Irdeto's current product page displays company logos, not title-level publisher confirmation. A current-use list requires a dated publisher or developer statement for each game.
